But, regardless, it was an idea I just wanted to place somewhere to hopefully encourage some discussion and maybe spur others to talk about their own theories! I would like to note that the story of Reincarnation is NOT finished, so, whatever theories I post here might be disproven or debunked in the future. So, that is what I decided we would talk about today… Without knowing exactly where these memories take place and when they take place, it makes it really hard to pin where this media might appear within the Yokoverse. That is because, while Reincarnation clearly has a main story, it also has mini-stories or memories that the player experiences…and these memories are said to happen in a far-off place and faraway land. After playing the app for well over a month and finishing the first act, I only saw small snippets of things I could point to and say that it was something that reminded me of something I had seen in Drakengard or NieR (the crossover stories don’t count). Now here we are at NieR: Reincarnation…and to say that people are confused about the story is a bit of an understatement. Our legacy (mankind’s legacy) lives on through androids who think we are all hiding out on the Moon (NieR: Automata), when the only thing left on the Moon is a massive archive on humanity’s history. Humanity tries to combat this strange disease by pulling human souls from their bodies to be reintroduced at a later date (NieR: Replicant), that project fails, and thousands of years in the future, humanity is extinct. SPOILER ALERT: We, as a species…don’t make it. How in Drakengard, a great magic was released upon the world (that world being an alternate version of our own) which would doom all of mankind (Drakengard 3), and this evil somehow ended up in OUR world/universe and brought with it a strange disease (Drakengard 1) and a new substance known as Maso (which essentially made things like magic possible in our universe). The DrakenieR series basically tells the story of humanity’s struggle to survive. Moreso, because the director of these games (Yoko Taro) also likes to add canon game-lore in collaborations with other games and media, the universe he has created has become more collectively known as the “Yokoverse”. The NieR series is actually known better as the DakenieR series as the lore is spread across two different game series, that being Drakengard and NieR. Worse still is when that piece of canon media is not the same genre or medium you are generally used to when it comes to main entries in whatever-fandom you have found yourself in.Įnter NieR Reincarnation…a mobile app released in 2021 (you can find my review for it HERE) and the third installment within the NieR series. There is nothing worse than looking at a piece of canon lore and then having to wonder where it fits within a timeline. ( Copied from my gaming blog: ) SPOILER WARNING: This game contains spoilers for Drakengard 1 / Drakengard 3 / NieR:Replicant / NieR:Automata / NieR:Recarnation
